A shoelace factory in León, Guanajuato: why buying at the source matters

León is the heart of Mexico's footwear industry. Buying laces from a factory inside the cluster means short logistics, technical response and consistent batches.

León, Guanajuato produces most of the footwear made in Mexico. Around that industry lives a complete ecosystem: tanneries, lasts, soles, adhesives — and narrow textiles. When a footwear brand looks for a shoelace factory, looking in León is no coincidence: it is looking where the craft lives.

Andina Textil was born here in 1988 as Agujetas Andina. More than 37 years later we still manufacture in the same city: shoelaces, cords, tapes, elastics, ropes and waxed thread, for footwear as well as apparel, furniture and industrial applications.

What does a buyer gain from working with a factory inside the cluster? First, logistics: picking up at the plant or receiving at your warehouse in León is a matter of hours, not weeks of ocean transit. A last-minute shortage in high season is solved with a phone call.

Second, technical response. Narrow textiles for footwear are full of fine detail: the weave that will not fray at the metal eyelet, the acetate tip with the right diameter for assembly, the waxing on the thread for sole stitching. Those conversations happen on the production floor, with physical samples on the table, in your own time zone.

Third, auditable formality. Our plant is ISO 9001:2015 certified, holds the ESR corporate responsibility distinction and received Guanajuato's State Labor Merit Award. For brands that audit their suppliers — more of them every year — that is the difference between a vendor and a supply-chain partner.

Fourth, total cost. The unit price of an imported container can look attractive until you add transit time, the safety stock it forces you to carry, rejections with no recourse and currency risk. The local factory competes — and often wins — on total cost of ownership.

If your brand makes footwear in Guanajuato or anywhere in Mexico — or if you are a North American brand exploring nearshoring — quote directly with the factory: send us your specification and you will have a proposal within 24–48 business hours.
