Buyer’s glossary

The terms this industry takes for granted, explained in buyer language. If a word comes up in a call or quote and it is not here, tell us — we will add it.

Gross

144 pairs or pieces. The classic textile wholesale unit. Twelve dozen, if you prefer.

Thousand

1,000 pieces. Common for cords and packaging components.

Spool

Continuous cord, tape or elastic wound on a spool, typically 100 or 250 meters, for cutting on your own line.

Roll

Continuous put-up for tapes and elastics; length agreed per product.

Aglet (tip)

The rigid end of a lace or cord that lets you thread it. Acetate, plastic or metal.

T-bar tip (dove / barb)

A "T"-shaped tip (Spanish: punta paloma) that locks inside the punched hole of a paper bag — the standard for handles. Available in plastic and metal.

Acetate

The material of the classic clear tip. Clear or colored.

Heat-cut

A heat-sealed end on synthetic cord, no tip. The most economical finish.

Core

The inner filler of a tubular lace or cord. Cored = rounder and firmer; coreless = flatter and more flexible.

Flat / tubular / round construction

The three lace families: flat is the sneaker classic, tubular is woven as a tube (with or without core), round is for boots and outdoor footwear.

Braided vs woven

Two ways to build: braiding crosses yarns in a spiral (flexible, good drape); flat weaving keeps a stable width and resists tension.

Drawstring

The cord that runs through a fabric tunnel to close or adjust: hoodies, shorts, fabric bags.

Twine

Thin twisted cord for general and industrial use: tying, packaging, construction.

Count / gauge

The "thickness" of a yarn or cord. For practical buying: specify the diameter in millimeters and we translate it.

Pantone

The standard color code system. If your brand manual has a Pantone code, we can match the textile to it and repeat it between lots.

Colorfastness

How well the color resists washing, rubbing and light without fading or staining what it touches. Critical for whites and premium packaging.

Lurex

Decorative metallic yarn (gold, silver) woven in for luxury finishes.

MOQ / minimum order

The smallest quantity that makes a production run viable. Depends on product and customization; confirmed in your quote.

Private label / contract manufacturing

We manufacture to your specification under your brand: you sell, we produce.

RFQ

"Request for quotation" — the quote form on this site.
